College Plans with the Giants

The Manchester Giants have teamed up with The Manchester College to create a basketball academy for 16-19 year olds.

The academy will help to develop young basketball talent in Greater Manchester whilst supporting their education pathway and progression.
We have also linked up with The Myerscough College in Lancashire, where a residential basketball course for elite players will launch in partnership with the club in September.

The Manchester College academy will provide opportunities for male and female players in the city to receive top-quality coaching – provided by the Giants – alongside their education.

The college has 15 centres across north, south, east and central Manchester and the academy will be based at the Nicholls Campus in central Manchester when it opens in September. Male and female teams will play fixtures in the British Colleges League.

A club spokesman said: “The Academy will give the students a platform to make the most of their basketball talent and provides an exciting opportunity to fulfil their potential and to become the best they can be.”

Julian Smith, Sports Manager from The Manchester College, added: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for talented players to develop their skills and prepare them for their future careers, whether that’s in basketball itself or the wider sports industry.”
