Giants seal new partnership with Stockport

THE Giants have formed a new partnership with Stockport Basketball Club aimed a helping both flourish.

The two clubs will share resources and expertise – with the agreement providing a pathway from Stockport’s junior teams right through to the Giants’ professional BBL side.

Stockport, who have National League teams from Under-13s up to senior men’s in EBL Division Three,  are celebrating their 50th year and have a five-star accreditation from England Basketball.

The deal creates a potential route from recreational basketball at the Stockport Sport for All Centre, through to the Giants in Britain’s top league and could see players move between the two clubs.

Giants head coach Jeff Jones, who will use his experience to help nurture Stockport’s coaches, said: “The staff and players of both clubs will work together to help each other grow.

“It gives some of our young players the opportunity to play at the level that best suits their development.

“And it gives us the chance to work together for the benefit of everyone involved and create a synergy between the clubs.”

Stockport secretary Marie Thornton added: “We are really pleased with the deal that the two clubs have agreed and it shows that, even after 50 years, we are still one of the leading basketball clubs in the country and are continuing to grow.”

Stockport coach Dave Atkinson said: “The Giants deal is really exciting for us and we really hope to make a push for promotion to Division Two by the end of the season.”
