Manchester Giants made it four from four at home, beating Surrey Scorchers 106-93.

Rahmon Fletcher and Tajh Green shone early on, the former facilitating the latter on multiple occasions for some earth-shattering dunks as Green ended the first with nine points.

Manchester maintained the pressure in the second and kept a persistent Surrey side at arms’ length, going into half time up four at 50-46.

Nathan Robinson was given extended minutes on the court and put in a skilful performance for 15 points and three assists, hitting some big shots including a fantastic shot-clock beating three midway through the fourth quarter.

Sunday afternoon’s matchup also saw the return of Lloyd Gardner to Manchester as an opposition coach for the first time – the coach who led the Giants to their highest place finish in the BBL since the franchise returned in 2012 and their first BBL Cup final since then.

The visitors kept themselves in the game, coming to within just two points of the Giants early in the third, but were unable to effectively keep the ball – they shipped 20 turnovers on the night.

They were led by the impressive South Sudanese, University of Colorado Springs graduate Padiet Wang who put on a clinic and ended the game with 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists and marshalled his players all night long.

It wasn’t enough though, as Dirk Williams top scored with 24 points of his own, supported by floor general Fletcher with 18 points and 9 assists, as well as a double-double from Anthony Roberson – he ended the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

The Giants passed 100 points for the fourth time this season, in a win that sees them move up to second in the BBL table, level with Bristol Flyers who they play in their next home game on 18th December.

A solid win for Coach Macaulay’s side as they head into a fixture-light November. They have just one fixture to come in the month ahead, away against Plymouth City Patriots on the 20th.

Coaches Comments : “First of all, Fletcher captained us like he always does and I thought Nathan Robinson was incredible with his energy off the bench! The place erupted when he threw down that dunk!”
