"I thought the first half we played very very well. We did well on the defensive end, keeping them to 46 points. Second half the fatigue kicked in, and we started playing quite badly" Danny Byrne

Giants 81-97 Eagles

Given the history of recent meetings between these two sides, fans of the Giants would have been forgiven for expecting another blowout, however, this was a very different contest to recent clashes.

An entertaining first half saw numerous lead changes with the Eagles heading back to the changing rooms holding a slender one point lead, the Giants showing that they weren’t just there to make up the numbers.

After the break the Giants slowed a little, letting the lead slip to ten points, before Newcastle used their experience to close the game out in the final quarter.

December BBL player of the month, CJ Gettys and veteran Darius Defoe were dominant inside for the Eagles, who out rebounded the Manchester club 47-36 and outscored the Giants in the paint 64-28, whilst their tricky point guard Rahmon Fletcher dropped 13 points and dished out 16 assists.

Edu Arqués continued his recent purple patch getting himself 19 points, including a highlight reel dunk that got fans on their feet. Yorrick Williams and Ingus Bankevics were both hot from outside, hitting a respectable 3/5 each.
