The Giants put up a brave effort against the champions but could not quite get the better of the BBL’s top team.
Newcastle retained their title with a 107-97 win in the north east.
But the Giants will take their positive display as encouragement going into their final two games against Sheffield (away on Friday) and London Lions at home on Sunday (6pm).
The Eagles took the first quarter 32-21 and it was 62-51 in their favour at half-time.
The Giants battled back in the third and went in the fourth eight down at 81-73, but despite closing the gap to seven off a Stefan Gill three – one of his six in the game – the home team claimed the win.
Gill hit 25 while Callum Jones had 22 and Rob Marsden – Jones and Marsden took nine rebounds each.
Devin Grimes scored 15 and took 10 boards and Ingus Bankevics was the Giants other scorer in double figures with 10.
