When the Giants were approached by the Sport Journalism Club at Mayfield Primary School in Oldham about coming to a game, we had an idea.
Giants Business Manager, James Gordon, took star player David Kadiri to the school for a mock press conference, where the pupils in the club asked the American everything about his career as a professional basketball player, his life and background and the upcoming games this weekend.
Teacher Hannah Davys will be bringing the group to watch their first professional basketball game this Sunday, when the Giants take on Bristol Flyers at the Trafford Sportsdome (5pm tip-off), the final game of the 2017/18 season.
Not only that, but both James and DK were honoured to be made Mayfield Marvels and Mayfield Stars.
James said: “Myself and Hannah had talked about this over a period of time and it went even better than we could have imagined.
“The questions that were asked by the children were fantastic and they all showed great enthusiasm and confidence. DK was great too, though there was one question that even he couldn’t answer – which he has taken back with him as homework to figure out by Sunday!
“As someone who dreamed of becoming a sports journalist from a young age myself, I couldn’t let this opportunity pass without giving the children an experience that they will hopefully remember for a very long time – perhaps even when they forge out career as a sports journalist in the future!”
