Webster was taken to hospital after being taken off during the defeat to Leicester Riders on Sunday, and has now been told to rest until the problem clears up, which may see him out of action until the end of the season.

Giants CEO, John Dwan, said: “Barry has been suffering with his back for a while and has been to see the club’s consultant on a number of occasions, as well as a couple of MRI scans.

“Following the recent setback on Sunday, the medical advice is to rest for at least a month and do some rehab. We look forward to seeing Barry back in action as soon as possible.”

Webster wasn’t the only Giants player to suffer injury against the Riders, with Richard Bell also going to hospital after the game with a broken nose.

He is having an operation to reset it on Friday, and the club is waiting for medical advice as to when he will next be fit to play, possibly with the aid of a face mask.

Meanwhile, the Giants have released guard Mike Creppy, who played in all six games in January.

The club wishes him all the best for the future.
