Cheshire Phoenix vs Manchester Giants
Where: Cheshire Oaks Arena, Ellesmere Port Sports Village, Stanney Lane, Ellesmere Port, CH65 9JN
When: Sunday, 18 November, tip-off 5.30pm

The Giants make the short trip to holders Cheshire Phoenix in the BBL Cup for the first meeting between the teams this season.

A place in the semi-finals is at stake as Danny Byrne’s men look to reignite their good away form after losing in Plymouth last weekend.

Giants beat Surrey Scorchers in the opening round, their first win in the competition since returning to the BBL in 2012.

What the coaches are saying

Danny Byrne: “I’ve got every faith that the players aren’t done in this competition and I want to see plenty of noisy Manchester Giants fans there on Sunday to cheer us on. Brings your drums and let’s make it feel like a home game.

“It’s their Cup and the pressure will be on them. We go there as underdogs and I’m fine with that.

“We were disappointed with the result in Plymouth last week and the players held their hands up. We know we can be much better and we’ve had a good, positive week.

“I believe in them and they believe in themselves and we will go there and try and get the job done.”

Ben Thomas (Phoenix): “Hopefully it will be a big crowd in and we’re expecting a tough game against them as they have recruited well this season.

“This weekend we need to be much better in all aspects of our play than we were against Sheffield (who beat Cheshire 84-66 last weekend).

“We failed to match them in key areas of the game and paid the price for it. Sheffield played with a hunger and intensity that we lacked in the game, which was really frustrating.
