Surrey Scorchers v Manchester Giants
Where: Surrey Sports Centre
When: Sunday, January 5, tip-off 2pm
What: BBL Championship

The Giants head into an away double header with London City Royals and Surrey Scorchers buoyed by two brilliant festive results.

First Danny Byrne’s men beat champions Leicester Riders at the Sportsdome in the BBL Trophy, then they hammered second-placed Sheffield Sharks away to go into the New Year on a high.

They have a 5/6 Championship record and will be looking for another win on Saturday night after a frustrating loss to BBL newcomers the Royals in September.

They then head over the Surrey on Sunday having recorded a win there already this season.

Willie Clayton earned another place in the BBL team of the week for his performances while Torry Butler was named on the bench.

What they’re saying

Danny Byrne on the victory over the Sharks: “What a great win and way to end basketball for us in 2018. Fantastic peformance by all six players tonight. Great travelling support from the Giants fans – we salute you.”

And Mike McCall Jnr: “I thought it was a great all-round team effort for the entire game. If we continue to build and play the way we did, we will be dangerous. We are very excited heading into the New Year, especially off the back of a great win in Sheffield.”
