Manchester Giants captain Callum Jones has been selected to represent England at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Jones, 32, has been rewarded for his fantastic service to the club by being chosen in Andreas Kapoulas 12-man roster for the Games, where the basketball tournament takes place from April 5 to 15.
England will play Scotland, India and Cameroon in the group stages, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals.
Giants coach Danny Byrne said: “It’s more than deserved. He has worked his backside off for this club for five years and this year probably worked harder than ever.
“He’s trusted and believed in me and that work has paid off.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a starting five player. It’s testament to what he’s done and we all hope he smashes it Down Under.”
Although pleased by Jones’ selection, the Giants will be without their star man for six BBL games – starting with the game against London on March 25.
Jones also misses home games against Surrey (March 30), Plymouth (April 13) and Glasgow (April 15), as well as the away trips to Bristol (April 6) and Leicester (April 7).
