THE Giants and St Peter’s High School have formed an exciting basketball partnership.

The school, in Belle Vue, East Manchester, will become the club’s first Manchester Giants High School of Basketball.

The partnership will see the Giants provide coaching for the school’s pupils and the cluster of primary schools associated with St Peter’s.

Giants director Graham Herstell said: “The Giants are thrilled to announce the first Giants High School of Basketball at St Peter’s.

“This is what the Giants are all about – working with the young people of Manchester to provide the opportunity to learn and play basketball in the Giants community leagues and, hopefully, one day possibly play for the Giants.”

Headteacher John McNerney said: “To be working in close partnership with Manchester Giants is an exciting opportunity for the young people of St Peter’s RC High School and our partner primaries.

“We already have strong basketball teams at St Peter’s and with Giants’ coaching, our young people will go from strength to strength.”

The partnership will form part of a basketball pathway, which includes partners in further and higher education.

It will also see St Peter’s and Giants develop a young leaders programme which will support the community leagues and primary school coaching.
