Manchester Giants have arrived in Spain for a pre-season tournament as preparations ramp up for the new British Basketball League season that starts later this month.

Danny Byrne and his new roster are in Tortosa in Catalonia for a four-day trip which will incorporate a tournament against EBA side Cantaires Tortosa and the Europe Basketball Academy.

It will be the ideal opportunity for the new coaching team to get to know their players and to get another couple of games under their belt before the first BBL match of the season against Leicester Riders on Friday September 29.

Giants CEO, John Dwan, said: “This trip is very important in terms of team building and ensuring we have the best preparation for the new season. We would like to thank Sisco President and GM at CB Cantaires Tortosa for all his help and assistance in arranging the trip, and we look forward to meeting him and his team and enjoying a great weekend of basketball.”

The Giants will take on Tortosa on Saturday (7pm local time) before playing the Europe Basketball Academy team on Sunday (12noon local time).

Updates will be provided via the Giants social media channels.

After the trip to Spain, the Giants return to the UK for a friendly against Sheffield Sharks on September 16.

Coach Byrne is also looking to arrange further friendlies for the following week, though these are likely to be played behind closed doors.

New American signing Austin Rettig is due to arrive in Manchester on Tuesday after receiving the appropriate paperwork. Fellow new recruit David Kadiri made his debut in the pre-season game against USA Select and will get a further taste of action during the weekend in Spain.

The Giants open the BBL season with an exciting home game against reigning champions Leicester Riders on Friday September 29 (7.30pm tip-off) at Powerleague Trafford Sportsdome. CLICK HERE for information and to buy tickets.
