A total of 12 people from Creative Support, whose head office is based in Dale Street, Manchester, came along to celebrate Men’s Day 2016, which was on November 19th.
They enjoyed a thrilling game, as the Giants saw off the Flyers in overtime to record their third straight win.
Breakthrough Member Michael said: “It got very tense near the end as they were drawing, then it went to over time and the Giants won. My favourite bit was the sound effects when someone missed a shot, that made me laugh! I would definitely go again, it was so much fun. I loved every minute of it”.
Fellow member Stuart added: “I enjoyed the basketball and it wasn’t what I expected – it was a big surprise and it was exciting going to overtime. Men’s day is really good, lots of people turned out. It’s important to talk about things that effect men, like losing weight or mental health. And it was a good chance to enjoy yourself with the guys, a good bit of fun.”
Men’s health, both mental and physical has never been more important. Three out of four suicides are male, and suicide is the biggest killer of men under 35. One in nine men will also be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their life time. Men are statistically less likely to visit the doctor about health issues, and even less likely to talk about any mental health problems they might be experiencing.
We hope that by marking International Men’s Day we will give men a chance to bond and connect with each other, recognise their individual strengths and talk about issues relating to men’s health and wellbeing.
