Long-serving captain Callum Jones and Latvian guard Ingus Bankevics are the first confirmed members of the Manchester Giants roster for 2018/19.

Jones, 32, was the Coaches and Players’ Player of the Year last season in a campaign that also saw him represent England at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Since arriving ahead of the Giants’ return to the BBL in 2012 from Worcester, Jones has made 182 appearances for the club.

He signed a two-year deal last summer and during the season averaged 14 points and six assists per game.

Adopted Mancunian Bankevics returned to the Giants from Leeds Force in the early stages of the season, having sat out the entire 2016/17 campaign while with the club through injury.

He made his return in the thrilling win over Cheshire Phoenix, and went on to play 24 times for Danny Byrne’s side, averaging 16 points per game.

Bankevics first joined the Giants ahead of the 2014/15 season, and has made 81 appearances for the club in total.

He said: “I’m very happy to be playing next year in the Giants uniform. Hopefully next season we can pick up more wins and get in the play-offs.

“We hope to see a lot of people at our games and carry on the great support that we get. See you all in September!”

Coach Byrne has been working hard on building his roster for the new season, with its first outing set for Sunday September 2 when USA Select come to town.

Byrne said: “Callum and Ingus are the backbone of the team and it was important to keep them for continuity.

“We brought Ingus back early last season for his experience and his basketball IQ. He’s willing to work hard and he has that three point shot. He will benefit from being with us for pre-season this season.

“Both Callum and Ingus have been good servants to the Giants and I’m glad we’ve got them for another year.”

The first new import signing for next season will be announced later this week.
