David Kadiri has been named as Manchester Giants captain, while Callum Jones goes to represent England at the Commonwealth Games.

Kadiri, 23, is in his first season as a professional and has led from the front for the Giants all year, averaging a double-double of points and rebounds.

He will step up as vice-captain to Jones before the point guard leaves for Australia on Thursday, missing six BBL matches.

Coach Danny Byrne said: “DK is vocal in training, he’s team focused and team orientated.

“He’s one of the first guys, with Cal, to get the guys together on the court.

“All the players respect and like him, and he has led from the front all season with his contribution.

“He has really hit the ground running as a rookie in his first season and is already turning in to a good professional player.”

Kadiri will captain the Giants for the first time at home to London Lions at the Trafford Sportsdome this Sunday.
