League Legend, Georgia Anderson, Returns To Manchester For 2023/24 Campaign

The Manchester Giants have confirmed the first signing of the summer for their Women’s side as League and British Basketball legend Georgia Anderson returns to the franchise for the 2023/24 season.

In an exciting new era for the club, who recently refranchised from the Manchester Met Mystics to the Giants, supporters will be delighted about Anderson’s return to the Belle Vue – after a season away from the game following the birth of her first child – as one of the League’s all-time greats leads Manchester into the new campaign.

33-year-old Anderson, married to Giants Men’s forward and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Jamell Anderson and the brother of Giants Men’s guard Callum Jones, is one of the most successful British players in the history of the women’s game.

The 5’8” point guard leads the Women’s British Basketball League in all-time Regular Season assists (942) and steals (255), ranks third in scoring (2226) and defensive rebounds (615) and in the top four overall for overall rebounds, assists per game and games played.

A Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist herself from the 2018 Gold Coast Games with England, Anderson was also part of one of the most successful Great Britain (GB) National Teams in history, as she helped lead GB to a staggering fourth-placed finish at EuroBasket 2019 in Latvia.

On her Manchester return, Anderson said:

“I’m really excited to be playing for the Giants this season. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to come back to basketball after the birth of my daughter, Harper, and look forward to contributing to the team in whatever way I can.”

Giants Head Coach, Marg Jones, said:

“We are delighted to have Georgia returning to our team. What better way to mark a new era of women’s basketball in Manchester than with the return of one of the most successful players ever, male or female, in our city?”

“Georgia’s impact on the court will be immeasurable. Not only with her obvious talents and abilities which will have an immediate impact, but in that she brings leadership, experience, and work ethic.”

“Even greater is the example that Georgia provides to all young women as an athlete and a mother and her determination to return to the basketball court in both roles. We have been anticipating Georgia’s return following the birth of Harper, and I feel privileged and excited to have the opportunity to coach her in the upcoming season.”
