Manchester Giants have added young Brit Conor Porter to the roster for the 2018/19 season.

Porter, 23, has played in NBL Division 1 for Manchester Magic and Lancashire Spinners, as well as playing under Giants coach Danny Byrne for the club’s Division 4 team back in 2017.

The guard, who stands at 6’5”, has been in pre-season training since the whole squad reported in earlier this month.

Byrne said: “Conor played for me at Spinners and for our second team. I’ve always thought he’s capable of stepping up to the BBL, he’s a great defensive player.

“He hasn’t looked out of place in pre-season so far, and it’s going to be fun watching him develop.

“A few years ago he was talked about as one of the brightest prospects in English basketball and with our new look bench, there will be opportunities for him to progress this year.

Porter said: ‘I am excited to be a part of the Giants BBL team this season. I have played for Danny previously and understand what he wants from me as a player and in practices. I think that it was the right decision for me this year as I am looking for a challenge and to be part of something great.

“I am expecting to use this year to develop myself and my game through playing with experienced professionals at a professional set up. I am only 23 years old and believe that given the right guidance and opportunity I will be able to play a valuable role in a BBL team in the coming years.

“So far I have enjoyed practicing and going against tough opposition. It is early doors in preseason but I can see great potential for this team and am thankful to be part of it.”

Porter, who will wear vest number 10 when the season gets underway, will likely make his first appearance this Sunday when USA Select visit for the first pre-season game – tip-off is at 5pm at the Trafford Sportsdome, with tickets selling well.
