Newcastle Eagles v Manchester Giants
Where: Eagles Community Arena, Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7AF
When: Friday, March 5, tip-off 7.30pm
What: BBL Championship

It is the fourth meeting between the two teams this season – and, so far, the Giants have the upper hand.

Danny Byrne’s men recorded the club’s first win over the Eagles since returning to the BBL in 2012 with an away Trophy win in January.

Eagles took a home win in the league opener shortly after that and Giants returned the favour at George H Carnall in a thriller, again in the league, in February.

The Championship decider between the two comes with the Giants eighth in the standings and the Eagles second.

What the coach is saying

Giants head coach Danny Byrne: “We have had two very good results against the Eagles this season but we are not kidding ourselves this will be easy. They are second in the table for a reason and we know it will be a tough challenge.

“Having said that, the win against Plymouth last week was pleasing and got us back to somewhere near where I want us to be after three losses. So we go there in a good frame of mind.”

Newcastle player-coach Fab Flournoy: “In all honesty it’s been a huge learning curve for everyone this season and especially for those new players not familiar with the Eagles.

“But right now we are where I want us to be – we’re in a strong position and we have gained some valuable momentum.”
