David AliuTHE Giants launch their New Year offensive with the visit of high-flying Worcester on Sunday.

Coach Jeff Jones is determined to turn his team’s positive recent displays into wins in 2014 – starting with the contest against Paul James’ talented outfit.

Jones said: “We are competitive and really need to turn that competitiveness into a few more wins so we don’t lose touch with the top eight.

“Our problem at the moment is around the depth of the squad. We were without four senior players and it told on us in the second half of our last game. It not only is effecting us in games but also in practices.

“Worcester are very talented and well coached, we are expecting a tough game as usual.”

Giants played the Wolves close in a high-scoring affair at Worcester in November, eventually going down 118-102.

And Wolves forward Kai Williams said: “Manchester are a very good team even though they may have had their struggles this season.

“They have a balanced team and players like James Jones, Rob Marsden and David Aliu (pictured) have been playing just as good as anyone in the league.

“This will be a tough game for us as they are very tough to beat at home. We are expecting a tough battle for our first game in the New Year.”
