DavidAliuGIANTS forward David Aliu has urged the team to get tough as they prepare for Sunday’s trip to Cheshire Phoenix.

Jeff Jones’ team go in search of their first win of the season and, like their hosts, have a 0-2 record.

Aliu (pictured) said: “As a team we all need to look at defensive positions and starting out a lot more aggressive and not waiting until we are down before we decide to play.

“Cheshire are always a tough team to play at home and I don’t expect any difference this season.

“On paper they have a very big team so it’s important we gel as a unit defensively this week in training.”

Giants were beaten by London Lions and Sheffield Sharks last weekend, while Phoenix also suffered against the Sharks before taking a bad beating from Newcastle Eagles.

Coach John Lavery said: “We didn’t start well against Newcastle and from there we were fighting to claw it back.

“We came out of the blocks really slow. They built up a 25-point lead in the first quarter and that killed us.

“Manchester have kept the nucleus of their team together and they have made a couple of changes.

“We know exactly what they are about and what they do.”
