The Giants suffered an agonising overtime defeat to Sheffield Sharks which saw the visitors rise to joint second in the BBL standings.

Patrick Horstmann led the way for the Sharks with 18 points including five in the additional period which saw the Giants go scoreless in their first overtime game of the season.

Mike Tuck was in inspired form for the visitors as he finished with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds to go with four assists on the night.

David Aliu led all scorers with 28 points including the game-tying 3-pointer with just 13 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

The Sharks dominated the first half and took a 41-35 lead at the interval as their defensive pressure forced the home side into eight turnovers which the visitors used to fuel their transition attack.

The Giants regrouped after the interval and used a terrific third-quarter rally to take control of the game thanks to five 3-pointers in the period.

After a short jumper by Tuck had put the visitors ahead 40-49 two minutes into the half before the home-side went on a 12-3 run to tie the game on a tough fade-away jump shot by the Stefan Gill.

On the Giants’ next possession Gill drained a pull-up jumper to give his side their first lead of the game with 4:07 remaining in the quarter.

The two sides traded buckets before the Giants reeled off six unanswered points to take a 64-59 lead into the final period.

The home-side made a bright start to the fourth with a bank-shot from Yorick Williams to give the Giants their biggest lead of the game but the visitors replied immediately with a 3-ball from the top of the circle by Tuck.

The home side held a 3-point lead following a made pair of free-throws by Williams with 2:34 left in the quarter. After a turnover by the visitors they fouled Gill on the next possession to put the Giants’ point guard at the stripe with a chance to increase the lead to five. However he missed the second free-throw to put his side up by four _
