THE Giants bagged a place in the quarter-finals of the BBL Trophy with a convincing win over Birmingham at Wright Robinson.

An on-song David Watts led the Giants’ challenge with 26 points, hitting five of his seven three-point efforts and making five blocks.

He was backed up by Stefan Gill, who had 17 points and James Jones with 10.

The Giants had to come from behind after losing the first quarter 23-18, but gradually took hold of the game in front of a bumper crowd at Wright Robinson.

They went in at the half-time break 46-40 ahead and remained in control, though the visitors never stopped fighting.

Giants finished the third period 67-57 in front and pulled away in the fourth to finish strongly.

Mike Bernard returned to action for the Giants and Callum Jones made his first home appearance of the season.

Young guns Chris Bwana, Anthony Purcell and Andre Gayle-McIntosh all got a taste of the action as Jones used all 12 of his players.
