THE Giants pulled off a fantastic win over the visiting London Lions to finish the regular BBL season in seventh place tonight.

It means the Giants will play second-placed Sheffield Sharks over two legs in the opening round of the play-offs next weekend.

Giants held their nerve to secure a post-season berth, knowing a victory would get them to the post-season.

And it took a superb fourth-quarter performance to see off the Lions after the visitors made it a one point game early in the final quarter.

A 12-2 run by the Giants broke the match open to 77-66 and a further burst saw the lead balloon to 89-71 on David Aliu’s three with three and a half minutes to play.

The Giants took the first period 28-23 and lead 50-44 at half-time.

They kept their lead at 65-61 going into the final period and though the Lions refused to roll over, the Giants finished them off with 32 fourth-quarter points.

Aliu led the Giants with 23 points, while Rob Marsden had 22 and Stefan Gill 18.

James Jones had a brilliant double-double of 11 points and 16 assists.

The Giants host the Sharks one Friday, April 25 or Saturday, April 26 (to be confirmed) and travel to Sheffield for the second leg on Sunday (4pm).
