Manchester Giants will move seven home games to the club’s new long-term home at the George H Carnall Sports Centre, from February onwards.

The Giants were due to move to the centre, situated in Urmston just over a mile from the club’s current home, ahead of the 2019/20 season and a planned re-development, but are now to make the move earlier after the shock announcement that the current PowerLeague venue is to close at the end of January 2019.

The move comes following positive discussions with Trafford Council and Trafford Leisure and the first game at George H Carnall will be against Sheffield Sharks on Sunday February 10.

Giants chief executive, John Dwan, said: “We would like to thank both Trafford Council and Trafford Leisure for accommodating this change in circumstances, and their support in enabling us to host the fixtures at George H Carnall at short notice. There is an exciting future for the club at the facility and while the early move presents some challenges for the re-development, it does mean that we can start the new chapter in the club’s history straight away.”

“We would also like to thank other BBL clubs for their co-operation in what has been a challenge to accommodate all games – one we hope that may present itself again should we win through to the BBL Cup semi-finals this weekend!”

Though the club has made every effort to keep fixture disruption to a minimum, there have been some enforced changes to the Giants fixture schedule.

All home games scheduled up until Sunday January 20 are unaffected – the final game at the Powerleague Trafford Sportsdome will be on Wednesday January 23 against Cheshire Phoenix (was previously scheduled for Friday April 12).

Any tickets purchased for the original dates will still be valid for the new dates – if you wish to switch to a different game, or claim a refund, please contact the club via email

The capacity at the George H Carnall centre is lower than at Trafford Sportsdome, so we would advise purchasing tickets in advance of games as we are expecting many games to sell out with very little pay on the door tickets available.
