Manchester Giants have completed the roster for the 2020-21 British Basketball League (BBL) season with the return of one of the most exciting young British prospects in the league, Zack Powell.
The 6’2″ 20 year-old point guard, joined Giants last season, featuring in 12 games in all competitions and playing an average of 12 minutes per game. His total of close to 145 minutes on court was by far the most of any player aged under 21 in the BBL last season.
After being particularly impressive in pre-season, his BBL-best performance to date was 10 points, four assists and three rebounds against Glasgow Rocks in the BBL Cup. In Championship action, he had four points, four rebounds and two assists on the road at Bristol Flyers in February.
Powell – a Birmingham native – was previously a standout for Aston Manor Academy in the Academy Basketball League (ABL), where he averaged 24 points, six assists and five steals in 2018-19.
“I am really pleased that we will get the opportunity to continue to work with Zack this season, after he impressed everyone under difficult circumstances last year”, said Head Coach Danny Byrne.
“He was learning quickly at the point guard position, and it is clear to everyone that he has great ability. He saw more minutes than any young player in the BBL, and I am glad that he has chosen Manchester as the place to continue his development. Again, it is a sign of our commitment to developing young British talent.”
“He already has the physical tools to compete at this level, and working day in and day out with a high calibre group like that we have recruited will see him come on leaps and bounds in all of the other aspects of the game.”
